Kill Lincoln- Good Riddance To Good Advice

Now this is a long overdue review of one of my favorite ska punk releases at all. If you need a heavy ska record to rage through the worst of mental health struggles to, it’s Good Riddance to Good Advice by Kill Lincoln. Yeah, not only does Mike run Bad Time Records, he ficking shreds on guitar and writes songs that have helped me through some shit. Stand outs are the title track that just sounds like intentionally tanking a bad day. Sometimes we need that. And Days I Spent Inside. It just sounds like a fight against depression and the basement hardcore chant of Do This For Yourself just fuckin slaps! Crank this one to 11 and hardcore skank through the trauma!

We Are The Union- Self Care

Coming out back in 2018 was the beginning of the reinvention of We Are The Union as we know them today. This was their first album with Jer and the influence is very clear in the ska of this album. WATU is still the basement emo ska band we love bit with more ska which is an upgrade. This whole album tackles a subject that needs more conversation in the scene. Self Care and mental health. I’ve been listening to this on heavy rotation while I’m currently dealing with a failure of effectiveness in my meds. And it’s such a fucking amazing friend that gets just how fucked up you feel inside. My 2 stand out tracks are Better Home and Surfin On The Waves Of Depression. Better Home is a reminder that we don’t have to keep living whatever way the damage made us. It’s a cathartic fuck you to the trauma. Surfin’ other than being a solid ska punk track, is just giving into pain and riding those waves. Sometimes that’s just the answer. This album has been a life jacket for me on those waves twice now. Make fuckin sure you listen to this, it can make a difference. Stalk and support at the links below and play this fuckin loud! This is the official album of underground mental health, Reade is our fuckin ska queen and We Are The Union is the official band of pride!

Look for a deep dive on this album in relation to mental health on the Psych Revolution podcast.

Days N Daze- Show Me The Blueprints

Days N Daze are back with another monolith of acoustic introspection. And this one drops on Fat Wreck! They made the punk rock big time and I’m happy for em. When I first heard the single Libriyum the notably better production threw me a bit. But now I love it. Being able to actually hear how good Jesse and Whitney’s voices really are is fucking awesome! Yet again they have stretched and improved their songwriting to give us another soundtrack to turning the blacklight on our own fractured psyches. So make sure your blasting this album up to 11 while you’re identifying your own demons and screaming at em to fuck off. Then dig in your couch cushions and steal your neighbors’ recycle to save up and catch a show whenever we can have shows again and these guys tour because it’s an awesome live show! Check links below to get a hold of this record cause it’s a hot one!

A punk’s guide to surviving isolation

So Covid 19 martial law got ya down? Here’s some ideas to make your forced quarantine more tolerable. Make music, yeah the tour is on hold, but you can write and record new tunes for your fans to blast loud. Punk things out, yiu can order patches and studs online and create some wearable art ( this is mostly what I’m doing) hell, start making your own patches with paint markers and old denim. Always wanted to become a great punk writer? Go for it, this blog will publish submissions. Finally watch all the great punk documentaries, many of them are on YouTube. Create your own punk rock doc, with technology everyone could do the interviews fron their home. Start checking out whatever weird stuff some friend told you about or your apps recommend. Check in on your people. Maybe start collaborative projects that can be done via web and phone. Wanna fight the system? Now is a time for hacktivism or other online direct action. The most revolutionary thing we can do is to be excellent to each other. We can still connect and/or create theough the dystopia!

Presenting Creative Chaos

Good friend mine and gnarly artist Kelly (Creative Chaos) makes coasters for sale. That’s right, you can stop letting your 40 sweat on the table and stop stealing coasters from the Goodwill that probably has your picture on the front door from when ya stole the table. You can do the punk thing and support a DIY artist. And No, this isn’t some hipster trash. Proceeds go to pay life expenses and benefit mental health recovery. Links and pics of these dope table savers below.
