The Skallector

I’ve shared this playlist before. Originally named Misfits Of Ska after the Asian Man Records comp. As I get questions and comments about it being the entirety of ska. Well, that was the idea. Other than wanting a portable library of the genre to listen to, it’s about algorithms and search results. To have all and any ska appear in the similar artists. We need all that builds upon what started in Jamaica in the 1950’s to get to know one another. If it wasn’t for the politics of ska, punk would’ve burned out with the Sex Pistols. Ska is a weapon against racism and our music is a weapon against the fascist favoring algorithms. Play yo shit loud and constantly!

Punk Politics #73

So spotify and Neil Young had a falling out because spotify wants to keep Joe Rogan. Now, I don’t understand Joe Rogan, but that’s irrelevant. The point is, we in the underground shouldn’t join this fight. This is wealthy people fighting over deplatforming a wealthy person. Punk and ska don’t have the legacy and machine of Neil and other 60’s protest rock. We need our exposure to share with one another and let everyone know they’re not alone. The fight isn’t taking away the trash voices. The answer is in numbers. We listen to spotify, but we obsessively play our stuff. You can even cheat the algorithm by keeping it playing on silent when you can’t listen. We play our music, our podcasts, news we believe in that shares anti corporate values. We need to build the world we want in spite of the hellscape that surrounds us. We support the fuck out of each other to extreme levels.

Thoughts on Alex Jones

So this week Alex Jones and Info Wars got pulled from Facebook, Spotify, ITunes and YouTube. The liberals are celebrating and the alt-right is melting down. Twitter has opted to keep him. And there’s been outrage at that. Jones is the bat shit crazy guy on the corner with a megaphone. He’s a vile creature. But he has the right to say what he does. Also the sites that pulled him are private companies with the right to refuse service or continue it. So I won’t miss the guy. But it’s an interesting study in freedom of speech.
